Once on This Island
North Andover High School’s production of Once on This Island was just as fun and
colorful as the kids of the cast. This musical is based on a novel of a young
orphan girl who lives on a Caribbean island divided between the French
upper-class and the peasants. Ti Moune, the young orphan, grows up to fall in
love with a member of the French upper-class named Daniel. The story was told extremely
well by the NAHS drama guild with elaborate set design, costumes and a dedicated
cast and crew. Many of these student actors have also been in Shakespeare
Company productions and have already had a great amount of experience as
actors, but also have very powerful voices. Many members of the cast had at
least one chance to showcase their musical talent and the actors who did not
have a solo were part of an impressive ensemble. The acting and musical ability of these
student performers is incredible and will likely lead to a successful career
for many of them later on. The North Andover Drama Guild has always put on very
professional level performances and this production of Once on This Island was no different.
