"Everlasting Life"

Featuring lyrics from the Page France Song, “Chariot.”

Twisting and twirling,
Curling and uncurling,
Twisting and twirling,
Circling.
The temporary incarceration within cells,
The eternal freedom of a soul.
Walking on heavy feet,
While twisting and twirling
Twirling.
“Fire come and carry us.”
Luminous eye whites shine,
“Fire come and carry us
Make us shine.”
The inevitable truth
Blaring
Booming
Behind bloodshot pupils.
Tired-exhausting
But shining
Ending is a consuming fate.
A flame cannot be latent
It begs to burn.
“Fire come and carry us
Make us shine
And make us rust.”
The fire of humanity
twisting and twirling
curling up,up,up.
Floating, curling, uncurling.
“Fire come and carry us
Make us shine
And make us rust
Tell us that you care for us.”

Once on This Island

North Andover High School’s production of Once on This Island was just as fun and colorful as the kids of the cast. This musical is based on a novel of a young orphan girl who lives on a Caribbean island divided between the French upper-class and the peasants. Ti Moune, the young orphan, grows up to fall in love with a member of the French upper-class named Daniel. The story was told extremely well by the NAHS drama guild with elaborate set design, costumes and a dedicated cast and crew. Many of these student actors have also been in Shakespeare Company productions and have already had a great amount of experience as actors, but also have very powerful voices. Many members of the cast had at least one chance to showcase their musical talent and the actors who did not have a solo were part of an impressive ensemble.  The acting and musical ability of these student performers is incredible and will likely lead to a successful career for many of them later on. The North Andover Drama Guild has always put on very professional level performances and this production of Once on This Island was no different.

Sami Abou Mayaleh
sweet girls.

rise from your slumber, young woman.
it is six in the morning.
straighten your back on your pink bed.
we don't care if you don't want to.
wake up, young lady, you have to
curl your hair and put on your pretty dress.

wear your sweet rosy lipstick intricately-
or else, little lady.
make sure to powder your pretty cheeks
with the daintiest blush-
or else, little lady.
do you want us to redden your cheeks with our palms?

and you're off, pretty woman!
we all hope you have a great day.
go get your education, buttercup.
this is good for you.
good girl - sweet obedient girl.
step out of line and we'll cripple you.

we love you!
